Critical function clarification
• This is a serial console/programming cable, not an Ethernet/LAN network cable.
• The RJ45 plug does not provide 10/100/1000Mbps networking, PoE or internet access.
• Do not connect it to an ordinary Ethernet wall outlet, router LAN/WAN port or network switch data port expecting a network connection.
• Connect only to a compatible RJ45 CONSOLE/CONTROL port documented for the required pinout.
Console compatibility
• Used for configuration of compatible routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers and other network/industrial devices.
• Commonly used with compatible console ports from Cisco-style and other vendors, but RJ45 console pinouts are not universal.
• Published pin assignment for this family: 1 RTS, 2 DTR, 3 TXD, 4 GND, 5 GND, 6 RXD, 7 DSR, 8 CTS.
• Verify the target device manual before connection. A different rollover, adapter or vendor-specific cable may be required.
Driver and terminal setup
• Many Windows, macOS and Linux systems include or can install FTDI drivers automatically.
• If the cable is not detected, install the correct driver from FTDI for the operating system.
• Open the created serial/COM port using terminal software.
• Set baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits and flow control to match the equipment manual. Common defaults such as 9600 or 115200 and 8-N-1 are examples only, not universal settings.
• Do not select an unknown COM port or transmit commands without confirming the device.
